The Portage Judo Club had a successful trip to Winnipeg on Saturday. Coach Brian Case says it was a gigantic competition.

"We were at Inner City Judo Tournament in Winnipeg, and they had 212 competitors that came from all over Saskatchewan and Ontario, plus Manitoba. It was huge, last year they had 160 and they thought that was a big one. So with the turn-out they had this year, there was a lot of very high level competition, and I thought our club did very well at it."

L to R - Wade Campbell, Duncan Cambell and Dwight Ducharme.

Case says it was a very successful event for his fighters.

"We sent 15 fighters all together. 2 of them were in the younger division where it's only an introduction to it, so they participation medals. Out of the other 13 fighters we came home with 8 medals. I was very happy with everybody that competed. Some of them got some pretty bad draws because the competition level was so high -- they were a little over their heads there -- but they all stood up and did very well, I was very happy with them."
