Mike McEwen, BJ Neufeld, Matt Wozniak and Denni Neufeld are going to the Brier.

What needs to be determined is if the Fort Rouge foursome will be competing as the Manitoba champions or Manitoba's representatives.

McEwen will meet Matt Dunstone in the final of the 2016 Viterra Provincial Men's Curling Championship this afternoon (2 p.m.) at the Selkirk Recreation Complex.

Dunstone, Colton Lott, Kyle Doering and Rob Gordon picked up four in the fifth end and defeated 2015 champion Reid Carruthers of West St. Paul 8-4 in this mornings semifinal.

The Granite foursome, who captured the Canadian Junior Championship last month in Stratford, Ontario, will represent our country at the World Championship in Denmark which coincidentally is the same time as the 2016 Brier in Ottawa.

By reaching the Manitoba final, Dunstone created the scenario where the finalist was guaranteed a trip to the Canadian Men's Curling Championship without throwing a rock.

Mike McEwen of course is that finalist after beating Carruthers 7-2 in the 1-2 page playoff game Saturday night.

“We want to win, it's as simple as that,” said Dunstone. “Just because we made the final doesn't mean we don't want to win it all and just because there's no Brier doesn't mean we don't want to win it all. So we're going to give it our all for this final here.”

“Obviously Mike's already got what his main prize was here to get, but I know he wants it too. He'll want it just as bad. He won't want to be given a Buffalo at the Brier there so he's going to be bringing it and we're going to be bringing it because we want him to be a finalist.”

Dunstone, Lott, Doering and Gordon are all 20-years-old.

But because of their respective birthdays - Dunstone is the only one of the four who will wind down his junior career next month.

Carruthers, Braeden Moskowy, Derek Samagalski and Colin Hodgson meanwhile saw their reign as Manitoba Men's champions come to an end.

And Carruthers gave Dunstone full credit for the win.

“He played real well but there was more that we could have done. I had a chance to freeze on that one end where he made a beautiful shot for four. I was a foot light and he made an absolutely beauty for four and after that the momentum was taken right from us. We got outplayed.”
