Today is day 2 of competition at the 2016 Powersmart Manitoba Summer Games in Steinbach.

After Day 1, Central Region is in first place with 6 Gold, 5 Silver, and 6 Bronze. Winnipeg Blue's in second with a total of 14 medals, and in 3rd place it's Winnipeg Gold with 13 medals.

Portage la Prairie tri-athlete Hailee Morriseau's set for today's race at St. Malo Provincial Park. She had the honour of leading the Central Region out during the opening ceremonies on Sunday and says it was a really cool experience. She says they spent most of Monday getting set for the triathlon.

"We just got back from the raceway at St. Malo not too long ago, so we were there all morning going over the course and getting ready."

Morriseau says it won't be too difficult to bring home a medal for the region.

"To come home with a medal I just have to finish, because there are only 3 (competing). Hopefully, I can just do my best and try to come home with gold."

The Triathlon begins at 9:30.

The Central Region boy's basketball Team fell 79-62 to Winnipeg Blue in their opening game. Coach Darin Arnold says a slow start cost them.

"We actually played pretty good against Winnipeg. We got off to a horrendous start, everything was just flat, fought back to 4 points at the half, and the depth of Winnipeg just overtook us."

The Central girls went 2-0 on Day 1. They won 53-41 over Eastman, then went on to beat Parkland 66-27. "It was a lot of fun. The girls worked hard," says head coach Emile Wallak. "We play with a lot of intensity, and they really work well together with a tight defense. It's a really good group of girls to coach," he adds when talking about his team's style of play.

The Central boy's basketball team goes today at 9 a.m. against Westman, while the girls start the medal round at 2:30.

The Central boys baseball team is 1-1, they fell 6-2 to Winnipeg Gold in the afternoon and won 10-9 over Westman in the evening. They go this morning at 9 against Winnipeg Blue.
