MacGregor's own Cody Buhler is among the best of the best when it comes to disc golf.

Currently ranked second in the entire province and first when it comes to amateurs, Buhler says he wanted to take the sport even more seriously this year. He describes his initial reaction.

"I was pretty surprised when I saw the rankings come out earlier this week," says Buhler. "It was definitely a pleasant surprise and I was really happy to be there."

Buhler says this was his goal for the season, noting it will be quite the challenge to get to the top spot.

"Number one is just so far ahead," Buhler explains. "If you look at the rating system, it's based on points and he's much further ahead. He's competing in the big tournaments down in the states against elite professionals. He's just on a different level, so I was pretty happy to be where I was."

Buhler says these rankings are based on a score given by the Professional Disc Golf Association to their members. He adds those ratings are calculated by your score in tournaments compared to the score of the other players in that tournament. Buhler says he's built his rating up for a number of years.

"I've had a pretty decent rating from years past, I've done well in different tournaments," says Buhler. "There was one tournament this year at Stoney Mountain, and I actually won the advanced division and was only second to Brian (Freese) who is number one in the province. So that really helped my rating."

Buhler says Kevin Desrosiers is another Portage representative on the leaderboard. He notes it's great to see the sport continue to grow in the province and across the globe and he hopes that trend continues going forward.
