Some local volleyball players came home with some hardware after a weekend tournament in Winnipeg.

La Verendrye School's Grade 8 girls volleyball team won the 2016 Junior High Challenge Championship. Head Coach Colin Talbot says it was a well-earned victory.

"It was pretty exciting for the girls, to see all their emotions come out after a long day was great. We got to the gym at about 9:30 a.m. and didn't about 8:30-8:45 p.m. It was just good to see all the girls have such a good time."

Talbot says it was a total team effort in the victory.

"We played good defense and were able to keep it simple. We brought 9 girls and they all contributed in different ways, and that's what made it so special. We were able to use everybody on the court."

He adds they've been a great club to coach all season long.
