A local sharpshooter had a successful weekend at the Manitoba Junior Rifle Provincial Championship last weekend.

12-Year-Old Zoe Murray won the Beginner 2 Class, as well as a couple of team awards with the Portage Junior Rifle Club. Murray says she was pretty nervous considering it was her first provincial event, and it wasn't looking good after her 3 practice shots.

"So like if you're nervous or anything, those 3 shots are to get you not nervous. On those 3 shots I didn't do so well, but on my other targets I did pretty good."

Murray was able to finish on top of the Beginner 2 class, out shooting 30 to 40 more competitors in her class. She says she was the only one from her club that stayed for the Awards Banquet, and after accepting awards for her club, they finally got to her class.

"Then they called my name, and my Grandma and Grandpa and Aunty all looked at me and started cheering. I was so happy I couldn't stop smiling, because I was walking up and going to get it, then I couldn't stop smiling the rest of the night."

Murray get to keep the trophy for the entire year, and plans to continue shooting competitively. Murray picked up a team award with club members Serena Davies, Quinn McCutcheon and Reece Hancock. Hancock also picked up the Postal X award, while Davies won a Postal Award as well.
