Registration is now open for the 2016 Portage Junior Trojans Lacrosse Club.

Club Board Member Graham Shindle explains the box lacrosse season.

"Lacrosse runs through the Spring. It's basically a late April, in to May and June kind of sport. It's all played indoors, and it's a short and intense season that gets going very shortly."

Shindle says most interested players only need to purchase a couple of items to play.

"The vast majority of our kids who come to us to play have most of the equipment required, because a lot of it is hockey upper body equipment. There is a spine and kidney protector you need to purchase."

He adds box lacrosse is amazing for building skills needed for a lot other sports.

"I would says you get accustomed to the floor spacing, you get accustomed to working in the traffic of other players and dealing with physical play. It's excellent cardiovascular exercise, it's fantastic for hockey players' wrists. It's all skills that players need to participate in other sports."
