The Portage Islanders edged the Winkler Royals 3-2 last night in Winkler in South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League action. This puts Portage in the lead in that series 2-0.

Portage didn't score until the second period when Tanner Waldvogel shot one in at 12:00. Just over five minutes later in gameplay Waldvogel then assisted Dan Leslie for a score. Waldvogel assisted for a second time in the third period to see Jeremy Brooks shoot one in.

Portage shot over three times as many pucks to the net as Winkler did when Royals' goalie Matt Krahn made 49 saves while Portage stopped 18.
