The Portage Islanders play their final game of the South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League regular season tonight in Stonewall.

Portage is in third place heading into tonight's contest, and a win would vault them over Carman,  into second place. The Beavers have one game remaining as well -- it's against Morden on Saturday, and a win would lock them into second.

"It would be a good way to head into the playoffs for sure," says forward Tanner Waldvogel. "Go in on a winning note and keep doing what we've got back to doing (recently). If all goes well we may be up in second place by the end of the weekend."

Portage has won their last four after dropping seven-in-a-row to start 2017. "The start of that little losing streak wasn't as bad as it looked," says Waldvogel. "We got three points out of the first four losses of it by going to overtime or a shootout, then it sort of spiraled out of control on us. It took us a while to find our footing again but we did."

"The Flyers work hard, they're fast, young and energetic," describes Waldvogel. "You know you have to come to play against those guys because they don't go away easy. We just need to make sure we're ready to go when we get to the rink."

The Islanders and Flyers go at 8 in Stonewall.
