The Portage Islanders fell 3-2 to the Winkler Royals in South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League playoff action at the Portage Mutual Arena.

The Islanders started off slow in the game and Winkler took advantage, scoring just under 4 minutes into the 1st period. Both teams battled hard for the remainder of the period, but no goals were scored and the Royals held the 1 goal lead going into the first break.

An early penalty in the 2nd period for Portage would lead to another goal for the Royals only 2:31 into the frame to take a 2-0 lead. The Islanders would settle in after that, and Winkler got into some penalty trouble which would prove costly. Landon Thomson gave the Islanders some life with a late powerplay goal that brought them back within 1 goal after 2 periods of play.

The 3rd period started just as the other 2 with Winkler scoring again within the first 3 minutes. Portage was able to net 1 more goal in the game on Landon Thomson's 2nd goal of the night, but it wasn't enough as the Winkler Royals ran out the clock to hand the Islanders their 1st playoff loss.

The best-of-5 playoff series is now tied at 1, with game 3 on Monday night in Winkler at 7:30.
