The Portage Islanders are up against the Maroons tonight in South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League action in Altona.

Portage has won their last three, with one of those victories coming against the Maroons on January 22nd at Stride Place. Defenceman Jeremy Brooks says every point is big with the standings as tight as they are near the top.

"It's important to finish the year strong and make sure we can get a couple of points heading into playoffs. Maybe even get a couple of wins here to carry some momentum into playoffs."

Brooks says they need to be ready to work hard tonight if they want to knock off Altona again. "They're a little bit defensive. They're a hard working team that likes to get the puck down low and bang around," explains Brooks. "We just need to make sure we're doing the same, but you never know in this league any team can show up and win any game, so we need to come ready to play."

Portage sits in third place right behind Carman and Notre Dame.

Tonight's game goes at 8 p.m. The Islanders have one more game remaining after tonight. It's in Stonewall Wednesday night.
