The MacGregor Mustangs junior varsity girls are the Zone 7 Volleyball Champions.

They went undefeated through the playoff tournament held at MacGregor Collegiate yesterday. The Mustangs knocked off Minnedosa in two straight sets, 25-16 and 25-20, while Erickson beat William Morton to advance to the final in the other semi. MacGregor then went on to defeat Erickson in 3 straight, 25-17 25-15 and 25-17 in front of the home crowd. Grade 10 player Amy Wiebe shares her thoughts on what drove them to victory.

"I think our heart and determination, and how we worked together as a team got us got us where we are. We definitely deserved to win."

The girls were cheered on by a packed gym full of family and friends. Wiebe says it was a real special night.

"It was an honour winning in front of all of our friends and families. It just felt great knowing we're going to provincials now, and there's no stopping us. We can do this."

Head Coach Kyle McKinstry says they worked very hard as a team in practices leading up to the tournament, and it really paid off. "Our serving was on point and we stayed aggressive from the first point on." He wants to thank all the supporters that came out to support their victory. The Mustangs' junior varsity girls are off to the A/AA Provincial Championships in Shoal Lake November 24th to 26th.

The Zone 7 varsity volleyball playoff tournament is today in Elton. The boys are up first with Elton and Minnedosa in the first semi, MacGregor and William Morton are in the second at 2 p.m.

The varsity girls will get going a little later. Carberry and Elton go in the first semi at 4:30, MacGregor and Neepawa go at 5:30.

The PCI Saints were eliminated from the West Winnipeg Athletic Conference junior varsity volleyball playoffs last night. They fell in a 5 set battle with St. Mary's in Winnipeg. The Saints will go for 3rd place on Wednesday in Winnipeg.

The varsity Saints are in their West Winnipeg Athletic Conference Semifinal today. They're in Winnipeg to face Westwood at 5.
