Dean & Brett Moxham of Portage saw their run at the 2016 Viterra Championship come to an end Thursday night at the Selkirk Recreation Complex.

The two Moxham's along with Randy Neufeld and Devon Wiebe were send home after dropping an 11-7 decision to Hayden Forrester of the Fort Rouge Curling Club in Winnipeg.

“The other team played well,” said Dean Moxham. “I've got to give them credit. They didn't miss a whole lot. The only time they missed, we got a couple of extra points. We had some bad luck I'd say too. Full value to those kids. I watched them a lot in juniors and they're going to be good.”

The La Salle Curling Club foursome won their opener 9-4 Wednesday afternoon over Mark Lukowich.

Neufeld, Moxham, Wiebe & Moxham then fell 9-2 to defending champion Reid Carruthers Thursday morning.

Dean Moxham said this year's Provincial Men's Curling Championship is one he'll always remember – especially since he had an opportunity to throw rocks on the same team as his son Brett.

“I got an extra game out of it and Brett was jacked to play Carruthers so for me that's the most important part – keep them excited and wanting to come back.”

Brett Moxham was disappointed to be eliminated by a junior team he knows so well but said the Viterra Championship experience was amazing.

“I enjoyed it quite a bit. We won our first game and it was a lot of fun. The atmosphere was unreal. The fans were great, the volunteers were awesome. I really enjoyed it.”

As for his favourite memory.

“Probably playing Reid Carruthers. I played big names before like (Canadian Junior Champions) Matt Dunstone and Braden Calvert but Reid's on a whole different level – no offence to those guys. That was the most fun I've ever had.”
