Central Plains Sea Lions Swim Team member Jared Vachon had a very successful time at the ManSask Short Course Championships at the Saskatoon Shaw Center this month.  The 13-year-old swimmer performed at his highest level so far this season, and the results show how much he's improved. Vachon talks about his time at the event.

"Three top 10 finishes, with all personal best times, it's a big accomplishment for any swimmer. It means you're getting closer and closer to those bigger meet times, so that I can get to Western's eventually, and then hopefully Nationals."

Vachon was selected to the Provincial Relay team, which is a meet tradition which selects the top 4 age group swimmers from Manitoba. He was awarded the butterfly leg after finishing as the top Manitoba swimmer in his age group in that race. Vachon says it's important to always be competing against yourself as a swimmer.

"If you beat them, and not get a better time than yourself, it's not really accomplishing anything. So you want to make sure that you're not only beating them for every body else to think you're the best, it's so that you know you're getting better and becoming a better swimmer."

Next he'd even like to crack the Team Manitoba roster.

"I'm hoping to get chosen for the Manitoba Games team. So I'm just going to keep working toward that goal, and we'll see where we go from there."

Below are some of Vachon's times and time shaved.
