The Portage Judo Club sent four fighters to the Lake of the Woods Judo Championships and returned with four medals.

Two fighters returned with golds while two others brought home silver medals. Ryder Maryniuk won gold in the U-12 category and Aiden Woodward snagged a gold in the U-10. Isabella McLean took silver in the U-12 category while Troy Doherty won silver in U-16.

"Two of the fighters we sent it was their second competition ever with our home tournament being their first," says head coach Brian Case. "Ryder and Aiden both came away with gold and fought very well. It was Aiden's second tournament so he had some butterflies, we calmed him down at the mat and when he got out there he did very well. Troy Doherty is our oldest competitor right now in the U-16 competitor and he got paired up with an older fighter who was also heavier. That's the reason he got silver instead of gold because he fought really well too."

Case says McLean was also fighting in her second tournament. She ended up fighting a girl in a higher belt class and put up quite a fight to get a silver. He adds it's toward the end of their season and belts and awards will be handed out shortly.
