Two third period goals from former Portage Terrier Brandon Stanley lifted the Waywayseecappo Wolverines to a 6-4 victory over Portage in Manitoba Junior Hockey league (MJHL) action Sunday night.

Stanley finished the night with four points, two goals and two assists, including the game-winner and an empty-net goal. Despite outshooting their opponents 33-22, the Dogs couldn't come away with a win.

Portage jumped out to a 1-0 lead thanks to Ryan Hendrix's even-strength marker at 2:13 of the first period. The Terriers had a couple of powerplay opportunities but didn't click with the extra attacker until the second period.

It was the Wolverines who struck first in the second. Brenden Martin and Landyn Cochrane had them out front 2-1 less than five minutes into the period. Waywayseecappo enjoyed its lead for just over a minute, then Chase Brakel tied the game on a Terriers' powerplay. Ty Enns made it 3-2 Portage, but that lead was short-lived because Cochrane scored his second of the night for Waywayseecappo to tie the game at three. Jeremy Leipsic scored the final goal of the frame. It was a powerplay marker with just over a minute to go to make it 4-3.

It didn't take long for the Wolverines to tie the game in the final 20 minutes, scoring 1:42 in to knot things at 4-4. Stanley scored an unassisted goal at 9:11 to take the lead, and added his second of the night when the Dogs had pulled goaltender Justin Klassen, who finished the night with 16 saves.

The Terriers continue their race to the MJHL playoffs Wednesday, when they host the first place Steinbach Pistons.
