The Central Plains Female Midget Capitals are in Steinbach this weekend for two Manitoba Female Midget Hockey League (MFMHL) games against Eastman.

The Caps have been off since last weekend, when they split two exhibition games with the Weyburn Gold Wings. Capitals head coach Ferdi Nelissen says Eastman will present a challenge.

"Eastman's a good team," Nelissen says. "They've got a lot of returning players, and it's a big region which gives them a lot of girls to pick from. We should be competitive with them no doubt, but we have to come with our 'A' game this weekend, or we're probably not coming away with any wins."

Nelissen says they're still having trouble getting to prime scoring areas because the girls are still playing perimeter hockey. "We've been trying to stress to the girls that perimeter hockey just doesn't fly in this league. Everyone has to get to the dirty parts on the ice if they want to score."

The Caps haven't played at home since Nov. 12, when they beat the Interlake Lightning 10-2 at the BDO Centre in Portage. Their next MFMHL regular season game at home is slated for Jan. 6.

Today's game goes at 1:30 p.m. in Steinbach. Tomorrow's is at 11 a.m.
