The Central Plains Capitals Female Midget Hockey Club are holding a fundraiser for Portage Terriers' Braden Pettinger at their MFMHL game against Interlake today.

Pettinger suffered a serious spinal chord injury during an MJHL game for the Portage Terriers, and the team wanted to show their support for a fellow hockey player. Capitals' Alternate Captain Eryn Stewart says hockey players all across the country have a very special bond.

"As one thing happens to a hockey player everyone can come together, and in his (Braden Pettinger) case, after he got hurt, as soon as everyone found out about it they wanted to donate money to him. Everyone just seems to come together when something bad happens, and when something good happens too."

Capitals' Head Coach Ferdi Nelissen says there'll be a couple ways you can donate.

"The gate is going to be a silver collection that totally goes toward Braden (Pettinger), as well as our profits from the 50-50. We hope people are going to come and be generous, and we're hoping to generate some money -- like everybody else has done -- to help this young man and his family, move forward with the unfortunate situation that has occurred."

Interlake is currently at the bottom of the league, and still remain winless this season. Stewart says they need to keep their ego's in check in a game like today's.

"The first time we played them we didn't really have an amazing game because everyone was trying to do too much. But you kind of just have to play like we play against Yellowhead -- or a team like that -- and try not to try and do everything ourselves. It's a little bit hard because it's almost like they get in the way, so you just have to adjust to how scambly the other team will be."

The Caps and Interlake hit the ice at 1:15 p.m. at the BDO Centre.
