Portage la Prairie City Councillor Ryan Espey's headed to the World Armwrestling League Final this weekend in Las Vegas.

In preparation, ESPN's sending a film crew today to catch Espey in his every day life around Portage la Prairie, for a documentary they're doing on the World Class Armwrestler. Espey's been armwrestling since 1997, he's a two time World Champion and 14 time National Champion. He says he ran the same circuit last year, and ESPN took notice.

"I didn't fair quite as well, but I did make it into the finals and I did get some TV time. This year because I'm one of the Regional Champs, I guess I made an impact. (ESPN) gave me a call and said they wanted to do a bit of a bio on me for one of the shows they're going to be airing over the summer."

Espey outlines his plan for the day.

"They'll be at my house, they'll be coming with me to city hall, following me to work. We'll just show them around Portage and give them a glimpse of what I really do."

Espey says it's not as easy as just going out and challenging people to an armwrestle. He actually practices his craft frequently right here in Portage.

"Not many people know this but I hold practices here every two weeks, and guys from all over the province actually show up to train with us. Then I'm in the gym 5 days a week."

Espey will be in Las Vegas for the World Arm Wrestling League finals this weekend. Give him a holler if you see him today!
