PCI Saints hockey team came up short in the championship game of their home tournament this afternoon at the PCU Centre. They fell 3-1 to Dryden Eagles.

Coach Joanne Clarke-Gillespie says in spite of the loss, they saw a lot of good things offensively, with a lot of puck movement and creativity.

"Played very well in our own end. We just, for whatever reason, came out a little flat today. Could be just the result of the fourth game, and quick turnaround, in two days. That's a lot of hockey on them, but Dryden played the same amount so there's no excuses for that, just unlucky. Not many times you're going to lose a game, and two of those three goals against are short-handed, one of them being two men down. It was unfortunate bounces, and luck just wasn't on our side."

Clarke-Gillespie's proud of her team's performance in the latter part of the game, when their chances of winning were dwindling.

"We have a good bunch of girls in the room, and they don't really get down, they don't quit, there's a lot of charater in there, and there's some good leadership, and so it was nice to see. Of course, goals help, and that one goal really kind of sparked them a little bit. And I thought we did play better in the third period, which was nice to see."

Megan Ferg got the Saints' goal, while Morgan Klassen took the loss in goal. Sarah Thomson was named Player of the Game for the Saints.

Lorette Scorpions were the consolation final winners.
