The Portage Curling Club is hoping for another good year, after having success in 2015.

President Jared Munro outlines some of the highlights from last year.

"Last year was the first year that we had the Women's Classic and it sort of tied together with the mixed doubles which was a good fit as well. We had lots of players coming in that either played in the men's or the women's tournament, then kind of joined forces to go in the mixed doubles, which was good for the club. One of the other things that we really focused on was creating a Learn to Curl program. We had 22 participants in a 5 week curling course, so that went off really well...it really exceeded our expectations."

Munro says the main focus for the club this year is just to get as many people curling as possible.

"We're continuing to think of new ideas to get more people in the club and on January 7th we're going to have an open house for that and sort of a registration night for the fun curling league. We're also going to try to build on the success of the mixed doubles...we're going to try to do an open doubles curling night and so we'll put on a bit of a clinic and then have some games. That should be a good event and we're hoping that we get enough interest to put together a small league."

Munro adds Sheri Blaylock has done a great job as manager of the club after taking over the position in the fall.
