The MJHL recently announced they'll be switching to a 3-on-3 overtime format for the 2016-17 season.

MJHL Commissioner Kim Davis is looking forward to the change. He explains the Board, and the Competition Committee started discussion halfway through last season.

"There was a lot of discussion about it amongt all the teams, so it was a pretty easy decision to make by the Board to make, in my opinion. I think it's going to be really positive and, it's been really successful."

Davis says it's exciting -- high speed -- hockey, which should dial back the shootouts.

"Certainly the 3-on-3 is that for sure, and it actually highlights the skill of the players in the league, which is what we're trying to do. I think it will also cut down on those number of shootout games."

Also announced was the elimination of the Survivor Series. Davis says it was meant to give those bottom teams a shot at some extra revenue.

"That just didn't prove to be successful that way. Even as regards to the extra playoff game or two that they might have received, the crowds weren't heavy and high like the estimate was."

Davis is looking forward to seeing the changes in action next season.
