A new team was crowned champions at the Canad Inns' Men's Classic.

Winnipeg's Reid Carruthers finished off Edmonton's Charlie Thomas 6-5 in 8 ends to capture the Dave Elias Memorial Trophy. Carruthers says the final could've gone either way at the start.

"It was a battle for both of us. I think we were both running probably at very similar energy levels, and it was just a matter of almost outlasting them. It was really one of those games that was a coin flip, but it flipped the right way this time."

Carruthers

Carruthers says they curled 6 matches in two days, and it wasn't easy.

"To be totally honest, going through the 'C' side really built some character and some grit for us. We knew coming into our first game in the quarterfinals here against Team Koe, we were going to have to curl 95 to beat them and we managed to do that. They played really well and we just got some breaks."

He sums up the Canad inns Classic as a total success.

"The competition was great, but more importantly, this is one of the most fun events that you can play in. You get to sleep here, eat here, you've got everything you need in one complex. Canad Inns does an amazing job."
