Five goals in the first period powered Central Plains Capitals to victory over Interlake Ice yesterday in Manitoba Female Midget Hockey League action.

The final score was 9-1 at the BDO Centre.

Chelsea Hallson led the Caps' attack with a hat trick, while Stephanie Stinson had a pair.

Mekaela Fisher, Mackenzie Guimond, Bryn Schmidt, and Kelly-Rae Zdan had singles. Fisher, Schmidt, and Zdan also had an assist each.

The Caps scored a single goal in the second period, and another three in the third.

Interlake's lone goal came in the middle frame.

The Caps' Eryn Stewart chipped in three assists. Marisa Fraser, Emily Upgang, and Lindsey Rutherford had two each.

Lacey Friesen wasn't busy in goal, facing 10 shots.

The Caps are in 4th spot in the standings, at 10-3-0-2-1.

Next up, they play a return match versus the Ice on Tuesday in Stonewall.
