The Central Plains Capitals are still undefeated is 2016 following a 3-0 win over the Norman Wild in Manitoba Female Midget AAA Hockey League last night at the BDO Centre.

The Caps took the lead halfway through the 1st when Emily Upgang scored a shorthanded goal.

Both teams battled hard in the 2nd period, but no goals were scored.

The Caps scored 5 minutes into the 3rd period on a goal from Mekaela Fisher to take a 2-0 lead. Chelsea Hallson scored an insurance goal with 5:02 left in the game to give the Capitals the 3-0 lead that they would hold onto for the rest of the game. McKenna Wild picked up the shutout win for the Capitals.

Capitals Head Coach Ferdi Nelissen says even though they won, the team could've played much better.

"At times we did what we wanted to do but we sort of got lulled into their game and we made poor decisions. We weren't moving the puck, we were forcing it to where it shouldn't be because we think we can. We have to execute...we can't execute any differently against them as we do against the better teams. All in all, we'll take the 2 points out of it but we expect the girls to play at a higher level."

The Capitals are back at it again tonight as they take on the 1st place Westman Wildcats at the BDO Centre and Nelissen says it will be a much tougher game.

"It will be a different game and a different pace. It'll be a real grind. They're a tough team to play and we better come ready to play. We told the girls to make sure they get some food and energy back in them and get some sleep and be prepared because we know how they (Westman) play...they play hard."

Puck drop is 5:45pm at the BDO Centre in Portage.
