The Central Plain Capitals landed a 2-0 win over the Yellowhead Chiefs at the PCU Centre in Portage in game 1 of the Manitoba Female Midget Hockey League final. Caps coach Ferdi Nelissen says the game was close on the ice.

"We played hard. They played hard. Those are two really good teams. I'd pay two watch those two teams play. It's a bunch of talented girls on both sides, great athletes. We know we are going to have to come out and compete. That is what we talk about, it's who wants it. Come out here and work hard, don't get beat on the one on one battles, do the little things right and good things will happen for us. It was good. Great result."

Nelissen notes the team will have to work hard out on the ice as there is little time to practice before their next game.

"We don't have a lot of time to work on anything. What we have to do is come out, just keep doing what we are doing, keep executing, keep getting pucks to the net. Both teams are receiving excellent goal tending. This is AAA hockey. These are elite kids and they are playing like that so we have to be ready to come and play."

The Caps now have a 1-0 best of 5 series lead. They play the Chiefs again at 4 PM on Sunday in Shoal Lake.
