The Central Plains Capitals picked up their fifth straight Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League win last night at the BDO Centre. They knocked off Interlake Lightning 3-1.

"You're never really as happy as you could be when it's a tight one like that," says Caps' head coach Brad Gnidziejko. "All in all though it was a good game. Our goaltender played great, we kept them to the outside with a few odd-man rushes but for the most part, it was a pretty good game."

Interlake was first on the board thanks to a Tyler Broda powerplay goal 15 minutes into the first period. The Caps tied things up three minutes later, though. Reilly Funk scored his 11th of the season, Jared Hulme picked up the only assist on the play. The Caps peppered their opponents' netminder with 18 shots in the period but were only rewarded with the one goal.

Joey Moffat got the Caps the lead in the second to add to his league lead in points, he would also add an empty net goal on the powerplay late in the third. The Lightning had a couple of chances through the final 40 minutes, but for the most part, it was all Central Plains.

"We didn't finish checks where we should," say Gnidziejko. "We want the guys to mark their man so everyone knows who has who. Small details, and at times we got away from the little-detailed things. It didn't allow us to get out of our end when we should've. We passed up opportunities there, but it's all part of the process."

Sveistrup making one of his many saves on the night for the win.

Caps' goalie Riley Sveistrup picked up his 5th straight win between the pipes, as Miles Minor has been out with injury for a few weeks now. "My last game before he was gone we kind of got kicked around in Pembina Valley, and Miles got injured. So I figured this was my time to step up and take the lead," says Sveistrup. "It's been nice to get five straight wins here with the boys."

Sveistrup picked up his 10th win of the year. He has a .904 save-percentage and a 3.20 goals-against average. He says they seemed to be a little too high on their horse after their loss to Pembina Valley, and the player meeting really brought players to where they needed to be.

"Once we started playing together, everyone is doing their role, and since we've been doing that we're pretty hard to beat."
