Central Plains Capitals enjoy a series lead for the first time in the Manitoba Female Midget Hockey League championship.

They defeated Yellowhead Chiefs 1-0 last night in Shoal Lake, and hold a 2-1 best of 5 series lead, as well as home-ice advantage.

Coach Ferdi Nelissen says a lot of credit goes to goalie McKenna Wild, who made 30 saves.

"She was very sharp in net, especially on penalty kills. Emily Upgang scored a short-handed goal in the first period, and we hung on for the rest of the game. Solid, 200 foot effort from all of the girls, so we play Friday night in game 4."

That game's at the PCU Centre in Portage, and a win gives the Caps the league championship.
