The Central Plains Capitals lost their final game of the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League regular season to the Thrashers. They did manage to steal a point in the loss as they fell 6-5 in overtime in Winnipeg.

Central Plains had one of their better starts against the Thrashers, jumping out to a 2-0 lead after the first twenty minutes. Jayson Brooks got them on the board with a couple of minutes to go in the period. Zak Smith added their second with just :10 seconds to go in the frame. Logan Calder picked up an assist on both goals.

"The game started kind of sloppy for both teams but we stuck with it and managed to get a couple first-period goals and took it from there," says head coach Brad Gnidziejko. "At times we were brilliant, and other times we were really sloppy. It was one of those games where you never really felt comfortable, we chased the goalie after our fourth goal and thought we had them, then just like that they were back into it. Don't get me wrong we did a lot of good things, and it was nice to have the Thrashers on the ropes again -- we've had them there before -- it's just frustrating that we can't put them away."

There were six goals in an action-packed second period. The Thrashers cut the lead in half 1:23 in, but the Caps battled back with a goal just over a minute later. This time it was Jared Hulme who scored to regain their two-goal lead. It only took Winnipeg nine seconds to negate the Hulme goal, and just like that, it was 3-2. The teams would exchange goals one more time before the period's end, Chance Dickenson scored for the Caps. Reilly Funk managed to get one more in passed the Thrashers netminder to make it 5-3.

The final twenty minutes only saw two goals, both were scored by the Thrashers and the game was tied at five. Winnipeg managed to find the back of the net two minutes into the extra frame to earn the extra point.

Central Plains finished the season tied with Brandon and Eastman at 54 points. The Caps record was 25-15-4, Eastman is 25-15-4, while the Wheat Kings are 26-16-2, but the tie break goes to Brandon and Eastman according to the league, so the Caps will settle with seventh place. That will pit them against Yellowhead in the first round of the playoffs.
