The Central Plains Capitals doubled the Southwest Cougars in Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League action yesterday evening.

The Caps took the lead right from the start with Mitchell Wilson's goal six and a half minutes into the first period, and remained in the lead for the entirety of the game.

Coach Brad Gnidziejko notes it was a solid game from the whole team and adds it gives them great momentum heading into the playoffs. He explains what this means going into today's final regular season game against the Winnipeg Thrashers.

"It's just a way to get momentum, get everybody in a positive frame of mind and then away we go. We haven't beaten the Thrashers yet this year, it's the only team we haven't beaten. But we have been ahead of them and we've had good games against them, we just haven't closed it out so hopefully [today] we can do that and then ride the wave into the playoffs, and it looks like we have a good chance of seeing the Thrashers in the first round so it'd be nice to get a win."

Gnidziejko notes with 24 wins this season it's the highest win-total the team has seen in the last decade, adding in that sense it's been a good regular season. Since joining the league, this is the Caps' third highest win-total; they scored 28 wins in the 2004/2005 season and 26 wins in the 2000/2001 season.
