The Central Plains Capitals stormed their way to a 10-1 victory over Interlake yesterday in Manitoba Female Midget Hockey League action at the BDO Centre.

The Capitals struggled to find the back of the net in the first period, as they put close to 20 shots on net, but the score was still deadlocked at 0 to start the second. The Caps finally found their finish in the second, as they netted 4. Sheridan Oswald, Chelsea Hallson, Eryn Stewart and Emily Upgang all had goals. Capitals' Head Coach Ferdi Nelissen says finishing was a problem in the first.

"First period we out shoot them 20-4, we don't bury our chances, you have to bury your chances. Then the shots we were taking, they were good shots, but I think we got better at executing. The second period was actually worse for us -- yeah, we scored 4 goals -- but we played a better first than we did a second, and we played a much better 3rd."

The Caps continued the shooting gallery in the 3rd as well, adding 6 more before the end of regulation. Amy Klippenstein and Chloe Snaith each netted 1 for the Caps in the 3rd, Hallson and Upgang each recorded their second, and Mekaela Fisher notched 2 as well.

Caps' goalie McKenna Wild makes an amazing glove save to keep the game 4-1 yesterday afternoon

Nelissen discusses the struggle playing to their level, not the other team's.

"You just don't look at who you're playing, you execute. You just execute the game-plan, keep moving your feet, don't get into bad habits -- it's tough to do -- but you just make sure you're on the right side of the puck and you're doing what we practice."

Caps' Goalie McKenna Wild wasn't too busy, but she made the saves when it counted, including two great breakaway stops. The Caps are back at it Wednesday when they visit the Winnipeg Avros in Winnipeg.
