The Central Plains Capitals hit the ice tonight. They're in Portage for Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey against Yellowhead.

The Caps had some success last weekend with back-to-back wins over the weekend. "They're playing well and they've got a fast team," says Caps' Head Coach Brad Gnidziejko about their opponents. "They're quick and they're going to come at us hard. So we're going to have to make sure our forwards are linking with the 'D' and everybody's playing together. Stay with the systems we've been using and push through."

The Caps' special teams are far apart when it comes to effectiveness. Their penalty kill is sitting at a strong 81 percent, but their powerplay's been struggling at a dismal 16. Gnidjeko says their special teams are coming along.

"We've been a little sluggish on the powerplay. We were trying to be a little too cute at times, the last few games we've come along though as we were 4 of 6 against Norman. The key for us on the PK is to stay out of the box, and if we do get on the PK we have some guys that are pretty good at it and we've had some success with them."

The Chiefs fell 5-4 to Parkland Tuesday night. Central Plains and Yellowhead go at 8 p.m. at the BDO Centre.
