In the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League tonight, Central Plains Capitals gained some ground on Winnipeg Thrashers in the league standings.

They scored a 5-2 victory over Parkland Rangers at the BDO Centre.

The Caps struck first, at 2:16 of the opening period, with a goal from Liam McKenzie. Ryan Sinclair got an assist on that goal, then scored himself at 10:18.

Parkland got on the board at 18:12 on the power play, from Riese Gaber, and the period ended 2-1.

The Rangers tied the game in the second, as Dustin Mozdzen got the only goal.

The third period saw Central Plains go ahead 4-2 just over 6 minutes in. Marco Mazza scored at 1:54, while John Jebamani's power play marker at 6:31 made it 4-2.Jared Roy sealed the win at 18:16.

Justin Klassen was the winning goalie, recording 36 saves. Jonathon Faktor took the loss for Parkland, with 38 saves as well.

With the win, the Caps have 45 points, which equals Winnipeg Thrashers' total in the standings. However, the Thrashers retain 4th spot by virtue of two games in hand, and two more wins.

The Capitals have a quick turnaround, as they host Yellowhead at 4 tomorrow afternoon at the BDO Centre.
