The Central Plains Capitals earned a 6-1 victory over Interlake yesterday in Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League action at the BDO Centre.

The Capitals took the lead early with Tyler Van Deynze scoring only 1:38 into the game. The Capitals kept the goals coming in the first with goals from Brody Moffat and Jayson Brooks, to give the Capitals a 3-0 lead under 12 minutes in. Interlake would score their lone goal in the game late in the 1st to cut the Capitals lead to 3-1 heading into the break.

The Capitals started 2nd the same way they started the game, with Jayson Brooks picking up his 2nd goal of the night just 27 seconds into the period and less than 5 minutes later, Tyler Van Deynze scored his 2nd goal of the game to give the Caps a 5-1 lead. Jayson Brooks scored halfway through the frame to pick up a hat-trick and give the Caps their 6-1 lead.

Capitals assistant coach Daniel Moar says the boys played well in the 3rd to keep the game under control.

"We just tell them to stay out of the stuff because teams sometimes get chippy. The boys kept working hard and were doing the little things. Our guys did a really good job staying out of the penalty box and the 3rd period went really smooth. Tonight was a good night"

The teams played a scoreless 3rd period as the Capitals took the 6-1 win. Caps Duncan McGovern got the win in net, stopping 33 of 34 shots.

Coach Moar says he's happy with the way the boys have been playing and hopes they can continue their success.

"Our guys have been playing really well. They've been doing the little things properly and coming every night to compete...that's what we've been wanting and what we've been teaching them to do. We're happy with the result...one more game before the break so hopefully we can get another win."

The Capitals next game is tonight at 7:30 in Brandon against the Wheat Kings.
