Portage Skating Club Skater Chanel Cabak's headed east for the 2016 Challenge Competition. Cabak outlines some of the details.

"We had our sectional championships just over a week ago and I placed second. So the top 3 from my category get to go to Pierrefonds, Quebec for a National Figure Skating Competition."

Cabak's training schedule is packed tight, skating 6 days a week between Winnipeg and Portage la Prairie. She says this is her largest event of the year.

"For my level, this is the highest level you can go, it's our National event. Other skaters, Novice, Junior, and Senior, there's Canadian's and if you're top 18 you qualify for that but my level isn't eligible."

Cabak made the trip out to Challenge 2015 and feels a lot more comfortable heading out.

"It was really cool last year because it was my first year but now I'm more prepared, and now I know what to expect. I just want to have fun, and have personal best scores in programs."

Chanel's short program is Wednesday around 3 p.m. Manitoba time. Catch her performance here.
