Portage Terriers captain Chase Brakel has made it official. He will attend Cornell University to play for The Big Red for the 2018-2019 hockey season.

"I committed to Cornell University the other day and kind of announced it today on Twitter." Brakel says, "So I'm committed to going there, play for them and go to school next year.

Brakel is excited for the opportunity to play NCAA Div 1 hockey and is especially happy to join a successful program and school in Cornell.

"Cornell is obviously an Ivy League School so their academics is extremely good and that's something I was really focusing on and going somewhere where I can get a good degree. So Cornell was a good pick for that. Their hockey program is one of the top programs in the country and they always do well, so that's why I chose Cornell."

Brakel adds that he is looking at taking something in the field of sciences but hasn't fully decided yet. He notes that he is glad that the weight of getting a scholarship is off his shoulders and he can now concentrate fully on winning another MJHL championship with the Terriers.
