There are a number of ways to enjoy that special father-son bonding experience.

Fishing trips, weekend golf outings or taking that short drive to Minneapolis to watch a ball game.

Here's another.

How about throwing and sweeping rocks at the 2016 Viterra Championship.

That's exactly what Dean & Brett Moxham of Portage are doing this week at the Selkirk Recreation Complex.

The Moxham's along with Devon Wiebe and Randy Neufeld earned one of the three Central Region berths for the Provincial Men's Curling Championship.

The La Salle curling club foursome will play their opener Wednesday (4 p.m.) against 2002 champion Mark Lukowich.

It's understandable that Dean Moxham is thrilled to being playing on the same team as his son.

"It's fantastic actually. Chance to curl with my kid in the men's provincials. He's really excited and I'm probably more so for him because I know what it's like to be in these things and for these young guys to get a chance to play in these - for me it's very special."

Moxham says the youngsters will play a pretty big role in determining the team's success this week.

"We definitely have possibilities. It's probably going to come down to what these two guys can do. How they can keep their composure out there. I think Randy and I can probably handle ourselves but who knows."

Dean Moxham has competed in countless Provincial Men's Curling Championships playing third for Don Spriggs.

They came close to winning it all in 2000 but lost the final to Jeff Stoughton in Brandon.

As for the youngsters - Brett Moxham and Devon Wiebe along with Austin Pearson and Brandon Radford had a 5-2 round robin record at the 2016 Provincial Junior Men's Curling Championship in Rivers last month and lost a tiebreaker to Derek Ornyiak of the Granite Curling Club in Winnipeg.

Now Moxham and Wiebe are playing on the biggest stage.

"It's going to awesome here," said Brett Moxham before the start of Tuesday's practice session. "I've only played on arena ice once and that was this year. It was unreal and that was only half the size of this arena. I'm so excited to imagine what it's going to be like when the arena is full and we're playing out there. "

As for playing on the same team as dad.

"It's unreal. I've wanted to play with my dad for a long time but he's been kind of hesitant about it. I'm glad he said yes this year and I'm so excited right now."

Let the bonding begin.
