The Portage Blaze and The Stan Kerns are on the pitch tonight in Winnipeg Women's Soccer League action.

The Blaze are 1-0 to start the Division 2 season after their 3-0 default win over Maniko Sunday night. Blaze's Head Coach Bryan Mintenko says they still got some field time thanks to their numbers.

"The other team had 7 players, so at least we were able to get in a good scrimmage with the other team. We gave them some players and had a pretty good scrimmage. We should be okay for numbers, 1 or 2 subs per game."

Mintenko says a few new teams have entered the league this year, with players coming up from the Premier Youth League. One of those teams is the Stan Kerns, and Mintenko expects a tough opponent.

"It's going to be a tough one. We'll try to play a very defensive game. I know they'll have very good ball possession, they have a lot of former premier youth players. So we'll have to keep the ball off their feet, and try to have better possession, and like I say just have a very strong defensive game."

The Blaze and The Stan Kerns go at 7:30 at Shaughnessy Park.
