The Portage Blaze picked up a point on Monday night in Winnipeg Women's Soccer League Indoor action. Coming from behind -- once again -- scoring 2 goals in the 2nd half to eliminate a 2-0 deficit suffered in the 1st half against FCNW Titans. With only 8 players on the roster last night compared to 14 on FCNW, the Blaze found themselves against the ropes early, giving up a lot of shots and giving up a lot of the possession.

Keeper Connor Forzley returned to the line-up after missing 3 weeks for a nose injury she suffered in November. She was a little nervous at the start and the slow start did not help as the Blaze gave up 2 goals in the first 10 minutes. From that point on, the Blaze defended much better and went into the half down 2-0.

In the 2nd half, the Blaze did a great job shutting down the FCNW Titans sniper, Jessica Kula, who already had two goals on the night. The defenders marked up much better and did not allow any close shots in the half. Just three minutes into the half, Jennifer West crossed a ball from the corner to Leanne Scharikow who put a shot in to the lower right side to bring the Blaze to within one.

With 17 minutes left, FCNW Titans were awarded a penalty kick for a tackle from behind. Connor Forzley made a great diving save to keep the Blaze within one. That save provided a big confidence boost for the Blaze, and they didn't allow any more dangerous chances from that point on. The Blaze would go on to tie the game with 6 minutes left, when Leanne Scharikow put a nice pass over to Eleana Scouras on the left wing, she took a step toward the goal and hammered a shot into the top left corner to give the Blaze a point on the night.

The Blaze go into the holiday break with a record of 4 wins, 2 ties and 2 losses, and sit in 4th place in the 10 team division.

Next action for the Blaze is January 9 vs. SE Shooters.
