The Portage Blaze are out east this weekend for the Kenora Women's Soccer Invitational Tournament.

Portage has had some success in Kenora in the past, with multiple semi-final appearances in recent years. Head Coach Bryan Mintenko says the tournament's switched from a round robin style format to an elimination style, which could be beneficial.

"If we lose that first game, there's still a possibility to make it to the 'A' side final. After that, if you lose you drop down to the 'B' side, and then if you lose again you're out. So it makes things a little bit more interesting, and it's only 30-minute halves."

The Blaze's first game is this morning at 10:30 against a team they're pretty familiar with.

"The first game is against Kenora United, we beat them 1-nil last year. That set us up for a top finish in our pool. So we play them again to start things off, and if we win that it sets us up for the semi's on the 'A' side again."

The Championship is set for Sunday afternoon.
