The Portage Blaze suffered a tough loss on Monday night, losing the lead in the 2nd half to fall 4-2 to CCC United.

The Blaze had all the momentum in the 1st half and the majority of possession, while keeper Connor Forzley kept the game scoreless with three acrobatic diving saves. With five minutes remaining in the half, Jozefa Azevedo faked a shot, got around her defender and placed a shot in off the left post to give the Blaze the lead going into the half time break.

In the 2nd half, the Blaze lost track of their marking and the game slipped away in a span of 6 minutes. CCC United scored three goals, all from a streaking forward coming down the left side and putting tight angle shots on the net which evaded keeper Connor Forzley. The Blaze did get one goal back with 7 minutes remaining as a hard shot from Elena Scouras squeaked through the hands of the CCC keeper and just over the goal line. They could not complete the comeback though, and CCC United would go on to score one more goal with 40 seconds left.

The Blaze are back in action on Monday, February 1 against 2nd place St.James Legends.
