The Portage Terriers did exactly what they said they would do. They came out strong at Stride Place, and the Dauphin Kings couldn't handle them, winning the game 5-1.

Chase Brakel (#10) would find the back of the net twice in this game.Early in the opening period, Owen Murray jumped up into the play, and put a shot on net which rebounded off of Kings' goalie Bryan Landsberger and onto the stick of Chase Brakel. Although the Terriers did not score again in the first, they out shot the Kings 15 to 8.

In the second, it was all about the Billaney-Funk Connection. Twice, Braden Billaney would find the back of the net after a nice play from Reilly Funk. The first featured Billaney going bardown after receiving a pass, and the second involved Landsberger being sprawled out on the ice. He thought he had it, Funk saw he didn't, and got the puck over to Billaney who made a play. It may have been Braden's fourth two-goal-game of the season, but he still gave full credit to his linemate.

"Me and Funk were giving the puck, good give-and-gos down low, which created space for us. It's just that one pass you got to beat them with, and then, beat them to the net," says Billaney. "Funk is so good at finding you, he's got such great vision, so props to him for those two goals tonight."

Ethan Peterson has not lost in regulation in 2019.Later in the second, the Terriers were crashing the net on the power play, and the puck fluttered into the air, and found its way over Landsberger and into the goal. Brakel would get credit for his second goal of the night.

In the third, the Terriers would start off the period by killing off a penalty. After successfully killing it off, the Terriers would get their own power play opportunity, and Sheldin Howard would make them pay. Murray came up into the play again, and fired a low shot which was tipped perfectly by Howard to give the Dogs a 5-0 lead.

Although the Kings would finally score after they were given a 2-on-1 close to Ethan Peterson in net, the Terriers seemed to outwork the Kings in every aspect of the game.

"It's always part of the plan. You want to be the team to outwork each other," says Billaney. "If we come and outwork any team, no doubt in my mind, we're going to win."

Peterson would stop 23 of 24 shots in the win. He has now won 8 of his last 9. His one loss was the 1-0 overtime loss to Swan Valley last Saturday. He has not lost in regulation since December 11th. (It was also Swan Valley.)

The Terriers now turn their attention to this weekend, where they have a home game against Selkirk on Saturday, and a road game in Winnipeg on Sunday against the Blues.
