January was a big month for the Portage Terriers -- as a team -- and even for a couple players.

For the second time this MJHL season Portage Terriers' Captain Brad Bowles has been named the RBC Player of the Month. The Elkhorn native had 27 points in 15 games when he won the award back in October, and now has 18 points in 13 games for the month of January. Bowles talks about the team's great start to 2016.

"Yeah it was a good month I guess, things just went my way. Our team is doing great, and having a good run so far, so everything's going good."

Currently Bowles is leading the MJHL scoring race with 83 points -- 35 goals and 48 assists -- and is 4 points ahead of second place Logan Harland of the OCN Blizzard. Bowles says it's definitely not a priority.

"I try not to too much, mostly try to keep our standing and stay number one to try and get home playoffs."

Brad Bowles also won the Recycle Everywhere Player of the Week at the start of the season.

The Terriers had another award winner for the month of January, goaltender Nathan Park has been named the MGEU Goaltender of the Month for January as well.

Park first won the award for his stellar play in the month of October, going 12-0 over the month with a goals against average of 0.99. He says it's all about team play.

Nathan Park celebrates after holding off an attack for the victory

"We've done a real good job of defending for sure, it makes our job as goalies easier. If we have an off night on that we seem to be able to score 5 plus goals. If that happens you should win every night."

Park's numbers are a little lower for the month of January -- but still top notch -- as he went 8-1 with 1 shutout victory. Park also won first star with the CJHL Gongshow awards back in November

Also highlighted was Terriers' 17-year-old forward Chase Brakel, who won the Rookie of the Month for December. His strong play has named his the first runner up for the award, and he talks about their offensive ability.

Chase Brakel has been one of the Terriers most reliable face-off men

"We just seem to be clicking. All the lines seem to be working well together, and even with all the injuries and suspensions we've had, we've still been able to find the net every night and that's been a big key to our success."

The Terriers are in Dauphin this Friday to face the Kings.
