Aaron Lewadniuk had two goals and six assists as the Carman Beavers defeated the defending South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League (SEMHL) champion Morden Redskins 9-1 en route to capturing their first Elmer Hildebrand Trophy in ten years.

"Things were going my way, it was perfect," said Lewadniuk. "The other night the bounces weren't going our way. We talked about just putting our head down and to just keep working. Fortunately the bounces went our way tonight."

The Beavers came out firing as Jason Rose, and Brett Chartier were able to find the back of the net under a minute apart to jump out to a 2-0 lead. A lead they would not relinquish as they would tally two more times in the opening period. Stewart Thiessen beat Redskins goaltender Reed Peters, who made 23 saves in the loss, while Lewadniuk put home his first of two on the night.

Clint Olson had the lone goal in the game for Morden in the first.

Lewadniuk and Brett Chartier both recorded their second goals of the game in the middle frame, while Paul VanDeVelde chipped in with a goal to make it 7-1 for the visiting Beavers after forty minutes of play.

Jesse Livingston, and Ryan McIntosh increased Carman's lead to eight in the third period.

Carman net-minder Steve Christie stopped 27 of the 28 shots he faced, to help backstop his team to being crowned SEMHL champions.

"If you think back to last year, when we almost didn't have a team. Then we made it to the finals as an underdog," said Christie. "To add some pieces this year, get all the way here, and finally get it done. It's pretty special for the town I think."

Playoff Most Valuable Player honours were split between a pair of Carman linemates. Mark Owen and Lewadniuk, who had a combined 55 points during the Beavers twelve game post-season campaign, were named MVP's.

"Mark's a heck of a player. We have so much chemistry and have a lot of fun out there," explained Lewadniuk. "It was unfortunate that he couldn't play tonight, but I think we played a little harder just for him."

The Beavers will now represent the SEMHL at the Manitoba Cup.

"You can't really change much," noted Christie. "We have our team identity, and we just have to go in with the mentality we had all playoffs and hope for the best."
