The Carman Beavers scored four goals in the second period as the dumped the defending South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League champion Morden Redskins 8-5, to tie up the best-of-seven championship series at one game a piece.

"The guys had a really good feeling coming in," said Beavers forward Aaron Lewadniuk. "We definitely didn't want to go down two like we did against Portage (Islanders), because that's a pretty tough hill to climb out of. Now we get to go back and try and get home ice advantage again."

Jesse Livingston got the visiting Beavers on the board first just over four minutes into the first. Morden's Chris Reimer replied a few minutes later to knot the game up at one.

Before the halfway point of the opening frame Beavers leading post season goal scorer Mark Owen scored his first of four on the evening to restore their one goal lead. Redskins Captain Steve Mulin was able to beat Carman's net-minder Steve Christie, who made 38 saves in the win, to tie the game at two. Shortly after Owen was able to find the back of the net for the second time in the period.

"The game didn't go how we expected," said Redksins coach Mark Thiessen. "If we expected it to be a four game series, we have something else coming. We knew that they were going to be eager and ready, and I think they like the bigger ice. We kind of fell into their kind of game, and on Saturday we will change things up a little bit."

In the second period Carman was able to capitalize on a number of Redskins errors, which lead to Lewadniuk scoring a pair of goals, while Brock Vanderveen and Owen recorded singles in the period.

Graham Leiding had the lone goal for the Redskins in the period.

Trailing 7-3 with one period left to play the Redskins showed great character and started to try and climb out of the four goal deficit they had put themselves in.

Reimer netted his second of the game to shorten the lead to three, then with just over five minutes left to play Kelby Friesen put a rebound past Christie to bring Morden within two.

With Redskins goalie Reed Peters on the bench in favour of the extra attacker for the Redskins, Owen was able to find the open cage for his fourth goal of the night.

"I hate to say it everytime, but playing with these guys every time. "It makes my job a lot easier, playing with Lewadniuk and (Ryan) McIntosh," said Owen. "We use each other well, and we are feeding off each other, and it's going well right now."

Peters turned aside 13 shots in the loss.

Game three of this series goes Saturday night in Carman, with puck drop at 8:00 p.m.

"We have to get back to our game, as opposed to theirs," explained Mullin. "Game one it was tight checking and we limited them to two goals. That's something we are going to be keen on. When you get into a high octane offensive game, that probably benefits them. They have some guys over there that can finish. Look at the Altona (Maroons) series, you look at our goals against, and that's been our big thing for us, and we need to get back to doing that."
