The Portage Islanders got thumped last night at the PCU Centre as they fell 7-1 to Carman in South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League playoff action.

After both teams battled to a scoreless 1st period, Carman took the lead with a goal under 1 minute into the 2nd period. The Islanders were able to answer back when Eric Delong scored shorthanded to tie up the game. Less than 40 seconds later, however, the Beavers scored to take back their 1 goal lead. Carman would add another powerplay goal before the end of the 2nd to take a 3-1 lead into the intermission.

In the 3rd period, the Beavers took control of the game scoring 4 goals in under 10 minutes to take the game 7-1.

Islanders' lone goal scorer Eric Delong comments on the game.

"We didn't really show up and they did and the score was pretty lopsided as a result. I think there were a few moments when the game was tight that if we could've made a few plays it would've swung the momentum, but obviously we didn't and we paid for it."

Delong says the team will need to forget about the loss.

"You have to have a short memory in the playoffs, win or lose. Just like we went into game 2 not worrying about game 1, we'll forget about this one and be ready to go Friday."

The Islanders lead the best-of-7 series 2-1 with game 4 scheduled for Friday in Portage.
