Herman Prior Centre is a Senior Services 55+ Centre, and we invite and encourage younger people and non-members to participate in our activities. Membership is $25, and members enjoy reduced prices for some special events. Members and non-members pay $1 and $2 respectively for each activity in which they participate at the Prior Centre.

 

Our doors are open from 8:30 - 4:30, Monday to Friday. Please drop in and see what we're all about! Ask for a list of programs and activities that are available. For information on any event or activity, you can contact Hope Faschoway, Executive Director, at (204) 857-6951 or [email protected].

The Herman Prior Centre would like to thank the

PORTAGE COMMUNITY REVITALIZATION CORPORATION

for the grant monies

that allowed us to beautify the four exterior display boxes

on the South side of our building, facing Heritage Square.

Following the completion of the upgrades,

many positive feedbacks have been received about how nice the

front side of our building looks.

Important Dates to Remember:

Good Friday (April 14th) – HPC is CLOSED – Regularly scheduled Jam Session cancelled

Easter Monday (April 17th) – HPC is CLOSED

 

Community Volunteer Income Tax Program – Runs until the end of April

This service is provided to those with low to moderate income and/or a basic return. An administration fee of $5.00 is required to cover costs of paper, ink and envelopes.

Celebrations Dinner Theatre “Greased 2” – Tuesday, April 18th

$80 for members and $90 for non-members. Bus leaves Herman Prior Centre at 9:30 a.m. and returns about 4:00 p.m.

Greased 2 - Join us, as we take a look in on our favourite hip cats and cool chicks as another school year begins at Rydell High. The notorious tough girl gang, the T-birdies, are about to choose their club leader for this year and the competition is close between Danni, the present leader and up and comer, Penny. The girls are also preparing for the big drag race with the Hot Rods, their rival boy gang. Johnny, the leader of the Hot Rods and Danni’s ex-boyfriend, will do almost anything to win the race and the girl. This show is a celebration of Rock and Roll music, sure to bring back fond memories for some and many smiles to all! Includes: Bus fare, ticket, meal & drink.

Spring Supper & Art Show – Sunday, April 23rd

Art Show opens at 4:00 – come and see the artwork done at Herman Prior painting classes. Supper is served at 5 p.m. Tickets are $15 per person. Supper menu is roast pork, scalloped potatoes, perogies, veggies, coleslaw, buns, beverages and dessert.

Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre - SARAH BALLENDEN – April 26
Against the landscape of the developing Red River Settlement, Sarah Ballenden has developed a thick skin as the Métis wife of a high-ranking Hudson’s Bay Company officer. But when a spark of gossip spreads through the Fort like wildfire her reputation is tarnished, leaving Sarah with nothing to depend on but her own true grit to clear her name.

This is the last matinee performance for the 2016-17 season, and all the HPC tickets have been sold, however, if you would like to attend, you can phone Hope at 204-857-6951 and ask to be put on a standby list, in case tickets come available.

Anyone interested in season tickets for 2017-2018 season (October/17 – April/18) – please contact Hope.

FREE Mature Driving Workshop with MPI – Friday, April 28th, 9:00 a.m.

Do you want to increase your confidence and driving ability? This free workshop will teach you defensive driving techniques, show you how to enhance your driving skills, update you on traffic laws and road safety rules, and show you how to compensate for any changes that occur in your hearing, vision, flexibility and reaction time.

Friday, April 28 - April Birthday Party and Dance

Dance is free and starts at 1:30 pm. Cake and Ice Cream will be available for $2.00 per person.

If you are a member and your birthday is in April, then your cake & ice cream are FREE!

Cirque du Soleil: Kurios – Friday, June 23rd

$115 for members, $125 for non-members. The bus leaves Herman Prior Centre at 6:00 p.m. and returns about 11:45 p.m. NOTE: the bus is full, but anyone else interested can phone Hope at 204-857-6951 to be put on a stand-by list.

REGULAR ACTIVITIES AT THE PRIOR CENTRE

Noon Meal Program - The Herman Prior Centre offers a full cooked meal at noon each weekday for $7.00, take out orders for $8.00. The meal includes coffee & dessert, and all ages are welcome. Call before 11:00 a.m. to reserve your meal. Monthly menu charts are available at the Prior Centre or call (204) 857-6951. Please note: Effective May 1, 2017, meal prices will increase to $8 and $9 for takeout. Also, as of May 1, the meals will be served at 12:15 p.m.

Herman Prior Centre Gift Shop - open 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. For a unique gift, come and see the items for sale in our gift shop. We have items from moccasins to baby clothes and many more handmade by local artisans.

Prior Centre Book Nook - open 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Monday - Friday. Books are $1 - $2, jigsaw puzzles are $1 - $10. Donations of books are always appreciated.

Scrabble - Join us for a game of Scrabble played every Monday at 10 a.m. - New players are always welcome.

HPC Medical Equipment Loan Service - We have donated wheelchairs, walkers, and other medical equipment available to rent. Call (204) 857-6951 for information.

Podiatrist Dr. Bellmont comes from Brandon to client appointments on April 18th at the Prior Centre. Call 1-877-909-3338 to book an appointment.

Beltone Hearing will be coming to the Prior Centre on April 10 and April 24. Call the Prior Centre at (204) 857-6951 to book an appointment.
