A 36-year-old woman is facing charges following an assault that occurred in Portage la Prairie over the weekend.

A little after 11 p.m., Saturday evening, Portage RCMP received a report of an assault at a residence in the 300 block of 9th Street NW. Police say when officers were en-route, it was learned that the assailant left driving a vehicle while believed to be impaired. Officers located the vehicle traveling in the area and conducted a traffic stop. The woman was asked to provide a breath sample on a roadside screening device. The result of that test was a fail and she received an immediate roadside driving suspension, and was also arrested for the assault.

The woman was held to sober up and was released the next day to appear in court and to abide by police issued conditions. The vehicle she was driving was impounded for 30 days and her licence will be suspended for 90 days. Along with that, she will have a $700 administration penalty to receive her licence back.
