Police were called to a hotel in the RM of Headingley on Portage Avenue on Tuesday morning around 7:20 after a report came in of a man with a firearm in a stairwell.

Headingley RCMP responded to the call and found the man sitting on the steps with what turned out to be a BB gun. The weapon was modified and due to the velocity at which it could fire, it falls under the category of firearm. The man was also found with four grams of what appears to be fentanyl and other drug paraphernalia.

40-year-old Lucian Baron of Winnipeg was found to be breaching several weapons conditions. He faces charges of Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, Possession of Unauthorized Firearm, Possession of a Scheduled Substance, and Breach of Release Order. He remains in custody.

Police checked out his hotel room, and another man and woman were found, along with more drug paraphernalia. Both were initially taken into custody. The man was released without charges. 38-year-old Dawn Lavand was wanted on a warrant for assault.

The investigation into this incident continues.
