The mosquito season is almost over.

Tim Hilderman is the medical officer of health for the Interlake RHA.

He says although there have been a few more reported cases of West Nile virus in Manitoba, he expects it to be over within a week or two as the incubation period usually takes two weeks. Hilderman adds although the risk is lower, we should still be aware and protect against the disease. He notes while we saw fewer mosquitos this summer, there has been an increase in reported cases of West Nile.

He notes because there were fewer bugs, people didn't protect as well as they should have, which gave mosquitoes a better chance of passing on the disease.
